Two very different tree populations
Yarm is the old market town on the Tees loop: mature trees along the riverside and The Straits, period gardens off the High Street, and a conservation area that means six weeks' written notice before work on any tree over 75mm diameter. The jobs here are careful ones: crown management on significant trees, work around listed buildings, and the odd riverside willow that has leaned too far towards somebody's lawn. Ingleby Barwick is the opposite: one of Europe's largest private housing estates, built from the 1990s, where the developer planting, ornamental cherries, rowans, lollipop limes, has now hit the size where it shades gardens, lifts driveways and drops honeydew on cars. Formative pruning and sensible removals dominate. Eaglescliffe and the Wynyard fringe sit between the two, with bigger plots and genuinely mature stock.
Permissions in this patch
Yarm and Ingleby Barwick both fall under Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council. Yarm's conservation area is the main regulatory factor; Ingleby's estates rarely have TPOs but do have management-company covenants on some developments, worth checking in your deeds before removing anything prominent. Riverside trees can also involve the Environment Agency where banks are affected.
Typical prices in TS15
Ornamental pruning on Ingleby's estate trees £100 to £250, crown reductions on larger trees £300 to £600, removals £150 to £1,500, stump grinding £60 to £250, and Leylandii or laurel boundary work £80 to £300. Ingleby's integral garages and cul-de-sac layouts usually mean good chipper access, which keeps quotes honest.
